The Wakefield Foundation, Inc.

The Wakefield Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit, tax-exempt corporation organized to preserve and restore the former Wakefield High School Building and to administer programs and activities for the well-being of the Wakefield community and surrounding areas.

The Wakefield Foundation offers the community many activities and services including:
 

The Marion Lillian Pittman Troxler Memorial Library

The Troxler Memorial Library, named for a local resident, is hosted by the Foundation. A branch of the Blackwater Regional Library, it offers a wide range of services to its patrons, including the latest best-sellers, a Children's Library, newspapers, music and videos.

John Tyler Community College Career Center

An extension of John Tyler Community College, the Center helps area residents meet the demands of the changing workplace environment. Services available through the Center include career counseling, information on skill-building programs and college courses, and Work Keys assessments.

Room Rentals

Several of the building's rooms are available for rent. Rental fees are: $250 for the auditorium, $150 for the gallery and $75 for the conference room. Wakefield - One Hundred Years in Photographs

The book Wakefield - One Hundred Years in Photographs - 1902-2002, which we had produced for Wakefield's Centenniel, has been reprinted. Copies are available, for $10 apiece, in Wakefield at Kid's Korner and at the Wakefield Pharmacy.

Upcoming Classes

John Tyler Community College are offering both CDL Truck Driver Training and a Certified Nursing Assistant class. Please call (757) 899-2365 or (757) 866-8570 for further details.

Computer Classes

The Community College Workforce Alliance, through the Skill Streams for Succes s Program, offers computer classes intended to provide computer skills for the business world. The classes are taught in the Foundation's Computer Lab. For information on classes being taught call (757) 866-8570 or (757) 899-2365. Piano Lessons

Nan Seeley is signing up pupils for piano and voice lessons. For more information call (757) 899-4381.

Karate

Percy Wyatt teachs Kung Fu in his studio in the Foundation. Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm-7:30pm. For more information, call Percy at (757) 562-7404.

Wakefield Dance Academy

Wakefield Dance Academy teaches dance classes at the Foundation. Classes for ages 2 and up will be offered in all types of dance. Classes will be held on Monday and Wednesday evenings. For more information, please call (804) 943-4207 or email tiffani.michelle@yahoo.com

GED Classes

Sussex County sponsors GED classes at various locations through out the county. The classes at the Foundation will be on Tuesday evenings from 7pm - 10pm. For more information on the classes, contact Eddie Morris at (804) 834-2659.
